Basic Safety Training

What is Basic Safety Training?

The State Basic Safety Training (BST) class is a program that is designed to give you a firm technical background in safety. Some of the topics covered included:

  • Cal OSHA Services/Regulations
  • Accident Investigation
  • Violence In The Workplace
  • Ergonomics
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Safety Management
  • Emergency Plans
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Industrial Processes
  • Confined Space
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Field Survey Techniques

Who Should Take It?

It is mandatory (S.A.M. 2580.4) for all State departmental safety coordinators to take this class within one year of appointment. It is also available to safety coordinators of other public entities on a space available basis.

How Long is It?

The Class is a two week program spread out over two months.

Is There a Fee?

The charge to state departments is $1,000.00 per student.

When is the Class Offered?

The class is offered twice a year.
